Cars and more Cars!

Well its Monday morning and I had a wonderful weekend at the trailer visiting with a long time friend who I need to see way more often. LOL. Her youngest daughter and grandson are moving and I wanted to make sure Evan got his Cars banner before they left. This is my first banner for an older child and I'm so happy with how this turned out.

For this banner I decided to use the shape of street signs for the banner. I wanted everything to fit into the Cars theme and this was perfect. I embossed each panel, some to look like tire marks, chevrons and some to look like the pattern that you would see on running boards. Sorry not sure what to call the pattern. I covered both sides of the banner. I kept this somewhat simple as it is for a boy and I wanted the characters to be the focal point of this banner.

I inked the edges of each panel in dessert ink to give them a distressed and dirty look. As you can tell I used the Cars Cricut cart to cut all the Ligthing McQueen characters. I used red ribbon to tie each piece together.
This banner was so much fun to make and Evan and his family loved it! Thanks for stopping by!

Another Banner!

Good morning everyone! I hope everyone  has been enjoying the cooler weather this past week. I know I have! Great weather for yard work and crafting. This week I managed to get lots of both done and just in time to get a last minute order for some banners for a friends wedding. Which I will share  with you when I get them done. Today I plan on sharing a banner I was asked to make for a baby girl who spend the first 3 months or so in the hospital. I was asked to make it girly and I hope this is girly enough for them.

I used the foamcore board yet again to make this banner. I love this stuff as its light weight and very easy to use. No nails required! I used my trusty hot knife to cut the foamcore board and sanded the edges for  nice smooth edges. I cut each banner piece at 5 1/2" and embossed  each piece with the big shot. I also   backed each piece  in an coordinating colour and embossed them as well. I decided to to a light sanding after I embossed each piece to give it that distressed look.

I used my CTMH cricut carts to cut the letters, flowers, leaves, swirls and butterflies. The paper and ribbon are not CTMH products. In the next few pictures you can see the embossing and detail a little better.

I you may have noticed I make lots of banners and I LOVE to make them. I get asked to make these all them time and I seem to give them as baby shower gifts. Banners are very easy to coordinate  with theme's, colours baby's name that you may not be able to get in stores.
Thanks for stopping today and I will be sharing another banner next but for a boy who is a little older. Have a great weekend!

Recessed Window card

Hi there everyone. Sorry for not having posted earlier this week. After a week of holidays I came home to lots of gardening work. I love to garden but I think weeds grow faster when your not home. LOL. I finally could all caught up and can get back crafting!
Today I'm going to share another recessed window that I made while on my holiday to the trailer. I bought this stamp set because I just had to have it and then didn't know what I wanted to make with it. Once I made my first recessed card I knew just what I wanted to do.

I used white cardstock for the base and I used Crystal Blue for the overlay. I stamp the girl flying the kite and water coloured her and the kite. I stamped and did some light colouring on the clouds. Some of the clouds I popped up and some I didn't. I was wanting a 3D look and feel to the clouds and I think I accomplished that.

I used Creme Brulee twine for the kite string and I added some small bows to the string. I used 3D pop up tape on he girl and the kite. I also stamp some clouds with Crystal Blue ink and than I stamped over the clouds with my sentiment.  I then glued the banner piece to a piece of Sky paper. I also used 3D pop up tape on the banner.
This card was a lot of fun to make. I still have to finish the inside but will leave that until I decide who is going to get this card.
That's all for today. Thanks for dropping by and I hope everyone has a great weekend either crafting or just doing whatever pleases you!

Welcome back to the Hearts of the West team blog hop July edition. If this is your first time joining us you will love it. It features Close to my heart consultants from the hearts of the west and team members from all over Canada and is founded by Nancy Klein. This month's challenge is a celebration of our beloved Country's Birthday!
A fun little fact...Canada is turning 147 years old. This month our challenge is using red and white.
...
This month is a challenge for sure, we are able to use the basic color pallet for accent colors. Grab your coffee, sit down and join us on a journey of creative paper crafts from the Heart!

If you came from  Freya Dunbar - http://freyassimplecreations.blogspot.ca/2014/07/july-hearts-of-west-blog-hop.html  You're in the right place, this is a go around blog so you can start anywhere you'd like. The full list is at the end in case.

I decided to make a simple Thank You card for this blog hop. I ended up making 3 different styles of this card and I couldn't make up my mind which to use, so I'm sharing all 3.

As you can tell from this picture the cards are all somewhat the same just. I just played around with the matting of each one.

For this card I used a black card base of 9" x 6" . I than took white cardstock and used the CTHM Damask embossing folder to give the cardstock some texture. I used the remarkable wreath stamp set to make the wreath ( retiring).   I first stamped the wreath using desert sand ink and than I used coca ink for wreath. I than used cranberry ink to stamp the flowers and the Thanks banner. I cut out the banner and used 3D foam tape to pop up the banner and I made little bows with white twine for each end of he banner. The ribbon is cranberry grosgrain (retired) that is tied to the side of the card.

This card above is  the same just used the cranberry cardstock instead of the white.  I sand the cardstock after I embossed it for a distressed look. The card below I used the cranberry cardstock but just left it plain. I like how all the cards turned out and each just a little different from the other.

Teacher's Thank You

Well I can't believe that the school year is almost over. While I was making this card for my youngest boy's teacher, I realized that I will have  one child going into grade 12, 1 into grade 10 and 1 into grade 6 come fall. Where has the time gone. I'm so very proud of how well my kids are doing and hopefully continue to do just that.
This card is called a recessed window card. I will post the youtube video by splitcoasterstampers at the end. My son wanted to have lots of flowers on this card as this teacher is his favourite! Not sure how may kids age 11 love their teacher but mine does! So I tried to make it as special as I could.

For this card I used a piece of white cardstock cut to 5 1/4" by 10 1/2" and folded it in half. Too make the window on the inside you need to make a square 3 1/2"  x 3 1/2" in the center of the front of the card. Once you have done that measure in 1/4:" and make another square. Now you need to take a ruler and craft knife and cut from corner to corner making a x in the square. I centered my window but you can place it higher or lower if you are planning on putting a sentiment on the front.
Once the x is cut you can fold the triangles outward (inside facing you) and then fold the next score line inward. The folds will create the window area of you card. Next glue a piece of cardstock to the opening. I stamped mine before gluing it in place.

I cut a piece of Lollydoodle paper at 5" x 5" and cut a 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" square in the middle to create a cover for the front. I then used my Art Philosophy to cut assorted styles, sizes and colours of flowers.

Once I cut all the flowers I spritz them with water, not too much as you don't want to rip the paper. I took my stylist and rubbed he edges of each flower to give it some shape. You can see in the first picture what it looks like before and after you rub the edges. I left the paper dry for a few minutes than rolled them up and I used hot glue to glue the flowers. I also did the same technique on the leaves to give them the same look as the flowers.  I hot glued everything in place as I wanted to make sure nothing fell off. I used the same paper to decorate the inside of the card and to cover the back of the window.

I really love to make flowers! I'm always looking for new ideas and techniques to make them look real. I hope it has enough flowers on it for Zach!
